CASE STUDY

Public Transport Authority

Looking for innovative approaches to enhance visibility, alignment, and responsiveness to evolving business needs.

THE CHALLENGE

The Public Transport Authority Mechanical Engineering Branch were seeking new ways of working to support visibility, alignment and a better way of responding to changing business requirements using agile management techniques across their rolling stock projects. The Branch self-initiated these agile practices and good progress was made over an initial 9 month period but they then wanted to understand where they were at through industry benchmarking of their progress in using agile management techniques, and based on this reflective exercise, develop a roadmap for continued improvement and optimisation over the next 12 months.

HOW DID WE HELP?

Twenty2 Collective were engaged by the Public Transport Authority Mechanical Engineering Branch to understand progress to date, create open discussion on areas to uplift their agile management maturity and co-design a roadmap for the Branch.

  • Working with the Principal Engineer (Team Lead) in the Branch, a Twenty2 Journey Map was developed

  • Active stakeholder engagement took place to understand context, needs and desires

  • Working closely with the Principal Engineer using the Twenty2 UVNO Methodology we delved deep into the understanding phase using a range of facilitation and analysis approaches

  • Using immersive design thinking techniques the team were able to identify successes to date and areas of focus to lift team capability and maturity using a clear roadmap and list of activities

  • Through active stakeholder engagement, requirements were prioritised and sequenced to focus on areas of highest importance and value

  • An iterative approach was used to deliver incrementally, with the ability to demonstrate value delivered weekly

  • Leveraged facilitation techniques focused on Psychological Safety and Equal Voice to help manage change and minimise resistance

  • The team reflected at regular intervals in order to improve performance and inspire happiness

WHAT OUTCOMES WERE DELIVERED?

  • Efficiencies gained in methods of reporting

  • Employee Experience feedback lifted

  • ‘New Ways of Working’ matured in the Branch with positive feedback from stakeholders
